On January 13, 2022 the Becnel Family Scholarship was awarded to Tyler X. Alphonse of Ben Franklin High School, Class of 2023.

Tyler will be traveling to Amsterdam, Netherlands for four weeks to participate in a program designed to give students an in-depth introduction to the key institutions and policy frameworks that, simply put, run the world!

By participating in this program, students will become intimately familiar with the roles played by the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), and other global institutions and stakeholders (like the IMF and the World Bank) in shaping and steering global politics, diplomacy and governance. By studying a variety of case studies that illustrate both the inner workings of these institutions, as well as the challenges they face, participants will be able to critically evaluate what the past, present, and future of global politics looks like. Tyler will also have the option to take part in cooking classes, boat excursions and a visit to Belgium.
